Okay, this is the second time i've asked a question in the last two days but this forum is really interesting and gets me thinking. While I was at University, I was driving innocently along when I realized I didn't have my lights on. At that PRECISE MOMENT, I saw blue flashing lights behind me and the police pulled me over. He then proceeded to put me in the back of his police car and ask me questions such as name, address, telephone number, mobile telephone number, height, weight etc.. which I believed to be innocent questions.. but then the questions kept going down a quite frankly rediculous route and he asked me ''hair colour, eye colour, what are you wearing?, where are you going? why are you going there? etc etc and I started to wonder if he was taking the mick. Then after all that he asked for my car insurance documentation and driving lisence and I said I didn't have any on me except my lisence. He looked at my lisence, wrote down some information and gave it back to me. He then said ''do you realize it is an offence not to carry your car insurance documents with you when asked to produce them at the roadside?''. Again I apologized and said that I had no idea that this was the case. He then gave me five days to produce my photo and counterpart driving lisence and car insurance documents at the local police station or I would be arrested for failing to produce documents on demand. He then asked me to provide a testimony which would be read in court if I didn't produce the documents and so I said ''I'm terribly sorry for any inconvenience''. He then let me out. Suffice to say, the next day I took my documents to the police station for inspection. Is this standard proceedure?

Ok, here's what's going on. i am basically a new driver and have passed my test 18 march last year. the time has come for me getting a car, however the insurance premiums are ridiculously high. I have used the comparing websites, but they offer no real result, so I phoned a few up. This is what they gave me, I was asking for a quote, on an 04 Renault Clio 1.2 Dynamic with 3 doors. Co-operative insurance 4645 (Full Comp) Direct line Over 3000(Full Comp) (they wouldn't give an accurate result, I'd have to be transferred onto another dept.) Quinn Direct 6000 (Third party, Fire & Theft only, i was then informed that their premiums where increased) All in my own name and not under any parents, however it seems like the best option at the moment. I do know about a few companies that specialise in young driver insurance, one called Young Marmalade and another called i-Kube. Both are cheaper, but there are catches to policies, i-Kube requires you to have a GPS tracker fitted, if you drive passed 11PM at night a 100 Penalty is incurred, and for each night you drive past said time. with young marmalade you need to have the pass plus scheme. I also know that premiums are subject to a post code area rating. (CH 62) so if anyone could tell me where cheap insurance for this type of car is I would be great-full.

My sister is taking my car off her insurance and she says I still have to pay the $88 that I owe her every month. She cannot cancel the insurance until she has the tags, I sent her the tags yesterday and she'll turn it in before the first (the date I usually give her the money). So now I have no car to drive, do I still have to give her the $88 if she turns in the tags before the first? Please help. She's the type of person who will take as much money as she can from you, I do not know anything about insurance and she uses that over my head.

Why would we need it to be a law? Insurance is in case something happens, well what if nothing ever happens, all that money goes straight into their pockets. If it's law, they should make a new law where, after a certain number of years that you never got in an accident you get your money back. The main reason a hit and run occurs is, jail, or they don't have insurance. You would solve half the problem! I read in the DMV booklet that you can show proof that you have $35,000 in an account, and you wouldn't have to pay insurance, does anybody do this?

Okay! I am a 17 year old male who has been driving in total for 2 years and I have unfortunately had 2 accidents. The first occurred in May of last year. I pulled out of a gas station trying to turn left so I had to cross two lanes of oncoming traffic ( I was in an unfamiliar vehicle) I could not see the lane closest to the middle and I went out further then I thought and the oncoming car took off the front bumper. The second accident occurred 04/14 I was driving to school and there was a man ahead of me who had his signal light on for the past 4 miles it was pouring down rain so I looked over to change lanes and when maybe I looked for to long I'm not sure but wheeI turned back the man had come to a complete stop in preparation to turn from a highway onto a dirt road. I slammed on my brakes they locked up I couldn't steer away and I hit him in the rear. My question is. Is this going to keep happening to me? Found a broker who offers ok prices, cheapest I could find, and the broker offers a 75% cash rebate by cheque in year one once you pay in full for the year or in the 13th month if you pay monthly. Some companies - aside from brokers - also offer rebates, although not as generous. Now how can this broker afford to do that? Does he get a commision from the company we get our policy through, like an affiliate bonus for signing up new clients and is he then using part or all of this bonus to cover the rebate to us? Works out well for us regardless but wondering why it's illegal in the US? Thanks.

Does anyone know if and/or how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will affect short-term insurance coverage? My son currently does not have health insurance at work; therefore, he has been buying short-term coverage which can be purchased month by month, every 3 months, or 6 months. The downside is that after 12 months of consecutive coverage, he has to sit out for 2 months (no insurance coverage). Not ideal, I know but it's all he can afford at this point. It basically costs him less than $40 a month. Just wondering about this. I guess we don't know yet how much coverage will cost under the ACA?? Maybe he can afford something better once that takes effect.
